visit of the minister of health and population to the Center for Research on Infectious Diseases Christophe MERIEUX

Following the working session held at his office with Prof. Francine NTOUMI, on July 26, 2021, the Minister of Health and Population, His Excellency Mr. Gilbert MOKOKI, visited this Thursday, August 5, 2021, the Research Center on Infectious Diseases - Christophe Mérieux located in the precincts of the Cité Scientifique (Ex ORSTOM).

This visit enabled the minister to learn about the various research projects conducted by the FCRM, the potential of its technical facilities and the youth (post-doctoral students) of its human resources.

Satisfied with the observation made particularly of the sequencing laboratory of the SARS-COV2 virus and other pathogens which was set up at the beginning of June 2021 in this centre, the Minister made the commitment to instruct the laboratory and research commission of the technical committee of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, so that the sequencing of the samples of the Republic of Congo formerly sequenced in the Democratic Republic of Congo; are henceforth done in this centre

At the same time, Mr Gilbert MOKOKI reaffirmed the need for a partnership agreement to be formalised as soon as possible between the Congolese Foundation for Medical Research (a private structure supporting research and health in the Republic of Congo) and the national public health laboratory.

The visit ended on a note of appreciation from the Minister of Health and Population, who encouraged the entire FCRM team to continue its efforts.
